Joel Torre stars in international film 'Surviving Evil'

Multi-awarded actor and director Joel Torre shared that he just finished doing an international film entitled "Surviving Evil" that they shot in South Africa.

Torre proudly said that he is the only Filipino artist in the film. Other foreign stars include American actor Billy Zane (Titanic), South African comedian Colin Moss (Big Fellas), Louise Barnes, British actress Cristina Cole, Natalie Jackson Mendoza who is actually Filipino-British and other stars from South Africa.

"Surviving Evil" according to Torre is a must-see horror film that is directed by Terence Daw.

"Actually ang setting nila is in the Philippines it's about this British documentary crew na gagawa ng istorya about the island and the natives of the island kaya lang may pagka-horror may mga aswang sa isla at ako bale ang guide nila," Torre said.

The actor said that the scenes were really shot in South Africa.

"Kasi imbes na dalhin nila ang lahat ng tao dito ako na lang ang binigyan ng pamasahe pero Philippines ang pinaka-setting."

Torre said that doing the film is memorable to him since he worked with foreign crew.

He will also remember the beauty of South Africa.

Though he enjoyed the good sceneries of other foreign land it was still hard for him to do the film since he's working alone as Filipino and misses his family.

"Mahirap siyempre 40 days ka doon mag-isa ka lang na Pilipino, malungkot din pero nandoon ang trabaho mo na pag-uukulan mo ng atensyon so nakakapag-focus ka sa trabaho mo," explains Torre.

"Surviving Evil" according to Torre might be shown before the end of the year.

Torre also said that the movie will be released internationally. It might be first shown in London then to other foreign countries and eventually in his homeland.

Torre also produced a digital film entitled "Ang Beerhouse," a sex-comedy movie that has a social commentary about prostitutes working in a beerhouse.

The movie will be released this coming October. Cast of the film includes Gwenn Garci, Epi Quizon, Ryan Eigenmann, Tado, Ronnie Lazaro and theater artists.

Torre who is know for his character as the country's national hero Jose Rizal, shared that up to now he's still dreaming to do the story of another national hero -- Juan Luna.

"Ang dream project ko ay yung buhay ni Juan Luna, at kahit sino siguro pwede nating makasama, ang ano din is to direct my own movie, yun ang isa kong dream talaga," the actor said.

The director-actor aside from doing independent films is also busy with his latest television series "Iisa Pa Lamang."

"Mahirap, kasi foreman ako dito ako 'yung tatay ni Claudine at may sorpresa pa may inanakan ako na iba. Dito mabait ako pero lumalaban din dati kasi ang roles ko inaapi din, dito palaban din," Torre said.

The actor said that he is really thrilled and honored to work for the series together with showbiz' big stars like Susan Roces, Cherry Pie Picache, Laurice Guillen, Gabby Conepcion, Diether Ocampo and Claudine Barretto.

"Iba talaga ang kinuha nila ay yung mga subok ng artista, kapag titignan mo heavy casting," he added.

He said that the series is different from other shows because of its characters. It portrays life of normal human beings.

Torre said "Iisa Pa Lamang's plot is not one-dimensional, it has a very complex characters. "Hindi yung black and white characters lang.

Torre aside from fulfilling various projects is also busy with his food business "JT's Manukan." It is a roadside stall along Sgt. Esguerra in Quezon City that according to food lovers serves the best chicken inasal (grilled) in town.

Iisa Pa Lamang (2008)

Casts of Iisa Pa Lamang

Early 90s, in a prosperous hacienda in Amadesto, Batangas, lived three childhood friends namely Catherine Ramirez, Miguel Castillejos, and Raphael Torralba. Little did they know that their lives would forever be caught in a complex web of lies, deceit and obsession.

When Catherine Ramirez (Claudine Barretto) grows up into a beautiful young woman, she falls in-love with Miguel Castillejos (Diether Ocampo), the eldest son of Isadora (Cherrie Pie Picache). While Catherine's and Miguel's love blossoms, Raphael (Gabby Concepcion) returns after living in the US for years. He also falls for Catherine. But Raphael is 10 years older than Catherine. He also learns that Catherine and Miguel are already in a relationship so Raphael won't declare his feelings for Catherine.

Hoping for a blissful life with the man she loves, Catherine soon finds herself trapped in a scheme of a devious woman who happens to be Miguel's mother.

After Catherine's mysterious disappearance, Miguel was forced by his mother Isadora to marry a rich girl named Scarlet dela Rhea (Angelica Panganiban). A union founded on needs instead of love, Miguel and Scarlet's marriage was a failure right from the start.

Heart-broken, homeless and rejected, Catherine strives to build a new life in Manila with her grandmother (Susan Roces). Regaining her pride, dignity and self - respect proved to be a great feat for a young girl like Catherine. Aura, her loving grandmother is her source of strength, hope and values.

Soon, blessings and opportunities come for Catherine. She was very fortunate to have been given a scholarship from a foundation owned by Martin dela Rhea (Bembol Roco). Things complicate when Martin falls in love and proposes to Catherine. Feeling indebted, Catherine feels she had no choice but to say yes to the man who helped her on her feet again. Martin dela Rhea was Catherine's hero, the man who gave her her life back. But Martin turns out to be Scarlet's father. When she marries Martin, Catherine hurts the people she loves and the people who loves her including Aura and Raphael.

Catherine soon becomes a complex woman with complex values and intentions. Driven by obsessive love and revenge, she starts creating problems and chaos around the Dela Rhea family. She is now Mrs. Catherine dela Rhea, a billionaire's wife. She is Scarlet's stepmother, Miguel's boss in the office, and she holds more power than anybody else.

Catherine becomes heartless, ruthless and cold as this was the only way she perceives to attain justice for all that has happened in the past.

But beneath her smoldering anger lies an undeniable passion between Catherine and Miguel. Their battle of wills is just an outlet of their own frustrations and deeply buried love and desire for each other.

And through it all, Raphael never lost hope. His love for Catherine is pure and he will do everything to free Catherine from her hatred and anger, despite his mother Estelle's (Laurice Guillen) disapproval.

And caught in the middle of this powerplay are the two young innocents - Sophia (Melissa Ricks) who is Miguel's younger sister, and Toby (Matt Evans), Raphael's younger brother. Will their blossoming love survive amidst the chaos around them?

Catherine realizes that in order to break free from the past, she must find it in her heart to forget and forgive... before she can truly attain the happiness and true love that eluded her all these years.

An epic saga with a powerhouse cast, IISA PA LAMANG is a love story that will show us the real meaning of love.
